MicroBT released the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine in May 2019. It is the latest generation of Bitcoin miners from MicroBT. They have released five models in this miner series. All these miner machines make use of the 8 nm Samsung ASIC chips. They have used the new logo of MicroBT on these miner models. You can see the specifications of all the five models of these Bitcoin miner machines below.
The Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is the most powerful among these five machines. The power consumption ratio of this miner machine is 48 W/T. We have received one of these machines for evaluation.
The official parameters of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine in the Standard mode are given below.
The hash rate of the miner machine is around 68 T. There will be a deviation of +/- 5 percent for this value. The total power consumption of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is around 3260 W. There will be a deviation of +/- 10 percent. The ratio of power consumption is around 48 W/T.
Appearance of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine
The packaging of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is really simple and compact. It comes in an industrial carton box. You will be able to see the logo, serial number, and logistics information on the outside of the carton box. The total weight of the whole package is around 12.3 kg. The size of the package is around 48.5 cm x 23 cm x 35.5 cm.
You will be able to see a custom pearl foam inside the carton box. This foam is provided to protect the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine from any damage during shipping. In addition, there will be another layer of protective cover for the miner machine. The machine will be inside a transparent plastic bag. It is provided to protect the machine from dust.
The Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine comes with a random power cord. The power cord of this miner machine is rated for 16 A. It uses a wire of 1.5mm diameter. You can only connect this power cable to a 16 A power socket. The power connector of the power cable will only suit a 16 A power socket.
You will be able to see the new logo on one of the sides of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. You will find a label showing the various preventive measures for using this miner machine on the opposite side. Some of these instructions include not touching the machine while it’s working, checking the miner before powering ON, using a regulated power supply, etc.
You can locate the control board of the miner and the power interface near the air inlet side. You can also see protective metal covers on the air inlet fans. Unfortunately, there are no protective covers provided for the air outlet fans.
Internal Details of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine
MicroBT uses a single tube design for the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. You can easily disassemble this miner machine. You need to remove the screws near the control board first. Now, you need to remove the voltage regulation line of the power supply on the control board. Finally, you should also remove the data line connection with the hash board.
The Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine and the M10 miner make use of the same control board. The interface section is also the same for both these miner machines.
You will have to remove the screws of the power supply and the screws that connect the hash boards to the power supply unit.
MicroBT uses a P20-12-3350-V1 power supply unit on this miner machine. It is capable of delivering 12 V at 265 A and 12 V at 12 A. The maximum power of this power supply module is 3350 W.
You can find lots of things in the Whatsminer P20. This miner machine uses the dual-voltage mode of the traditional Whatsminer machines for transforming the voltages. It is divided into two sections: upper and lower. It also uses a two-stage low pass filter. The boosting is provided with the help of the 2 PFCs. The voltage reduction is possible with the help of two LLCs. These two LLCs come with greater buck efficiency and lower loss.
You will be able to find a programming interface in the Whatsminer P20. The voltage can be adjusted with the help of the software. The stability of the power supply unit is enhanced with the use of a couple of inductors and a couple of transformers. But it has increased the cost of the machine. There is a 12 V fan of 8 cm size used for the removal of the excess heat from the power supply. It is a 1.5 A rated fan. This fan is fixed at the back side of the power supply for cooling the unit. This design helps to avoid oxidation and incoming water vapor particles. Water vapor can enter the power supply unit if you use it in a humid environment. The shell of the power supply is super thick. It helps to provide a good heat dissipation design.
There are two 14 cm fans in the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. Both these fans as 12 V ones rated for 9 A. The model number of the fan is PFC1412HE-00. It is provided to remove the excess heat. The air is supplied to one side with the help of one of these fans and pushed from the other side.
You need to remove these fans, the controller adapter board, and the hash board.
The chassis of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is made up of aluminum alloy die cast material. There are grooves in the chassis for inserting the computing power board of the miner machine.
There are 3 hash boards in the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. You can also see heat sinks on both sides of the hash boards. These heat sinks are made of aluminum. They are high-density heat sinks. Twenty-six spring screws are used to reinforce the heatsinks on the hash board.
You will be able to see the computing power chip of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine only after removing this heat sink. You will find the thermal silica paste in between the heat sink and the ASIC chip. It is for transferring the heat to the heat sink. There will be 105 numbers of Samsung ASIC chips on each computing power board. You can see the code name KF1920 on it.
There will be an aluminum substrate on the back. It is coated with thermal paste. It makes direct contact with the heat sink.
Installation Configuration of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine
You need to double-check and ensure there are no physical issues with the miner machine before powering ON. There should not be any unconnected wires in the machine. The miner must not make any abnormal sounds.
The power socket you use to connect the miner machine must be rated for 16 A. You must plug in the power cable only after confirming these power ratings.
Now, you need to find the IP address of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. You can check the router machine for a device with a MicroBT name. You can also make use of the network card’s MAC address.
After finding the IP address, you can enter it into the network address. It will take you to the login page of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. You need to enter the username and password details here. For a new machine, both these fields will be admin. It will take you to the homepage of the miner machine.

You can click on the Configuration/ CG Miner Configuration to go to the mining pool setting interface. You can modify the mining pool settings here. You need to add the address of the mining pool. You need to add a name for the mining pool. The password of the mining pool also needs to be changed.
Make sure to add backup mining pool details in the Pool 2 and the Pool 3 sections. Once you have entered all these parameters, you can click on the Save& Apply button to register the settings.

Testing the Standard mode on the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine
We will do a 24-hour test on the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine, operating it in the standard mode.
The ambient temperature during the test is around 28 degrees Celsius. The ambient noise is around 50 dB. The power consumption of the machine is around 125 W. the measured level of noise is around 102 dB. Both the cooling fans of the miner machines were running at their full speed of 7200 rpm during this noise measurement
The Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is in the automatic frequency for the initial 20 minutes of its operation. The computing power of the miner machine fluctuated between 14 and 19 T during this time. The fluctuation in power is between 1100 to 2500 W. The fluctuation in the speed of rotation of the fan is in the range of 1000 to 2000 rpm. The level of noise is around 60 dB. So, there is not much noise during this time. You can notice this process every time when you restart the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine. There is nothing unusual in this process.
You can see that after these 20 minutes, the computing power of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine will reach 68 T. If you observe the running time of the miner, it will begin from 0. Now, the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is performing its normal operation. The power consumed by the mining machine is around 3340 W. The measured noise level is around 93.7 dB. The noise levels are slightly higher when compared to the previous models.
The temperature on the side of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is around 45.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature on the outlet side of the miner machine is around 59 degrees Celsius. The temperature near the cooling fan at the outlet side is around 66.5 degrees Celsius.
We will also measure the temperature at the connection point of the hash board and the power supply. It is around 37.3 degrees Celsius. 48.3 degrees Celsius is the temperature on the outlet side of the power supply unit.
You can see a gradual increase in the consumption of power after 24 hours of testing in the standard mode. The ambient temperature also increases during this time. It is due to the fact that the total power consumption of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is crossing 3000 W. The temperature measured on the power lines of the miner is in the range of 36 to 39 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is recorded on the power plug connected to the power socket. The temperature value is around 55.3 degrees Celsius.
The computing power of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is also measured after the 24-hour continuous test. The average computing power of the miner machine is around 69 T. The total computing power after 24 hours in the mining pool is around 68.3 T. The rejection ratio is 0. The power consumption ratio of the Whatsminer M20S-68T Bitcoin miner machine is around 48.9 W/T. It is lower than 50 W/T. It helps to enhance the performance of the miner machine. This miner machine is currently the best performing Bitcoin miner machine.
