Bitcoin Miner’s Firmware Upgrade Guide

You will have to do the firmware upgrade of the bitcoin miner at some point in time. In certain cases, you will be forced to go for the upgrade. It is due to the reason that the miner might have stopped mining since the firmware is outdated. The latest firmware version does offer better performance in mining than the previous versions. So, you will definitely want to upgrade your miner’s firmware to see a boost in your revenue from mining.

We will share all the details required to upgrade the bitcoin miner to the latest version. We will use the Antminer S7 miner for this tutorial as an example. You can apply the same steps for all other Antminer models also. So, let us get started.

 

List of Firmware

The first thing that you need to do is download the latest firmware from the internet. Check out the links given below for downloading the latest miner firmware.

You can go to the support page of Bitmain here to download the latest firmware.

You can also check the official support website for the others.

Once you have completed the downloaded, you can see the tar.gz file in the download section. You don’t have to unzip this file. Instead, you can use this file directly during the upgrading process. The list of steps to follow for the upgrade is given below.

 

Upgrade Procedure to Follow

 

You need to check and ensure that you have downloaded the correct firmware

Switch on the Antminer and wait for some time.

Go to the Upgrade tab that comes under the System Tab.

Click on the Upgrade button.

Now, you need to select the downloaded latest firmware. You don’t have to unzip the firmware. You can browse and select the tar.gz file for the upgrade.

Make sure not to choose the Keep settings option. You need to press the Flash image button to do the upgrade.

Now, you will see a popup. Click on the Yes option in the popup window.

You will have to wait for around 3 minutes to complete the firmware upgrade. Sometimes, the upgrade will get completed in one minute. It will depend on the new firmware file.

Once the upgrading process is successful, the software will push you to the System Upgrade Succeeded page. It will show rebooting as the status.

You need to ensure that no power outage happens to the miner during the upgrade process. The ethernet cable must be connected full time during the firmware upgrade. You need to check all the connections (power and ethernet) before starting the upgrading process. It is essential to ensure that the upgrading process does not stop in between due to power failure or network connectivity issues.

You will have to wait up to 3 minutes for the system to complete the upgrading process.

Once the firmware upgrading is complete, you can navigate the Miner Configuration tab. Now, you need to configure the Antminer again.
