Bitmain Ant S7 Bitcoin Miner In-Depth Review

The Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is one of the latest Bitcoin miner machines from Bitmain. This miner machine makes use of the BM1385 chip. The computing power of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is about 4.05 T. 1040 W is the total power consumed by this miner machine. Bitmain has also optimized the latest S7 batch of miners, including the S7-135 miner. This optimization is done based on the first original batch of miners. The first batch of miners has a computing power of 4.86 T. The total power consumed by these machines is around 1180 W.

Official Specifications

The Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine comes with 135 numbers of BM1385 chips. There are three computing power boards in an Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. Each of these computing power boards comes with 45 chips. If you see the older S7 machine, there are 162 chips in it. So, Bitmain has reduced the number of chips by 27. The older version of the S7 also had three computing power boards.

Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine comes with 4th generation BM1385 chips. These chips are developed by the Engineers at Bitmain, specifically for Bitcoin mining. These chips were released in August. They are manufactured using the TSMCs 28 nanometer technology. These chips are capable of delivering computing power up to 32.5 GH/S. The BM1385 chips require 0.66 V for powering its core. It is a low power chip. It consumes only 0.216 W/GH/s power. It is for a single chip.

So, we will evaluate the latest version of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine.

This design structure helps to save material costs. It also helps to protect the machine from all kinds of shocks. If you look at the front side of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine, you will be able to see the interface for the network cable, status indicator lights, and the fan for colling. It is a 12 cm fan. It gets the air from the front side.

You can also see another cooling fan on the backside of the miner. The air gets exhausted from this side of the miner machine. Bitmain has provided a turbine-shaped design for the cooling fans. It shows that they have opted for a high-end fan design. It helps to improve the heat dissipation efficiency of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine.

If you compare the S7 miner machines with the S3 machines, the volume of the machine is quite smaller. There is an increase in the computing power of the miner machine by around 10 times.

There is a two-way heat sink provided for each of the chips in the computing power board of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. Thus, the miner machine has got a very tight structure.

Before going into the installation process of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine, you need to look into the machine and ensure that all the heat sinks in the machine are not in the fallen state. You can see the label showing a warning on the side of the fuselage.

The installation process of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is quite simple. First, you need to connect the power cord of the miner machine to the power socket. Secondly, you need to connect the Ethernet cable to the machine. The other end of the cable needs to be connected to the router. Once you have made these two connections, you can switch ON the machine.

We will be using the Antminer APW3-12-1600-B2 power supply for powering the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. The conversion rate of this power supply is 1600 W.

You need to connect the power cable to the hash board first. You will be able to see three standard PCI-E6 pin ports on each of the hash boards of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. You need to ensure that at least two of these boards are connected to the power. We strongly recommend using all three hash boards for mining. You need to ensure to use 18AWG standard wire for connecting the hash boards to the power supply.

When you switch ON the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine, the machine automatically gets an IP address. The miner will initially scan for the IP address and take it. Now, you need to find the IP address of the miner machine. In order to do that, you need to open the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine IP in the browser. You will have to input the password and user name details to enter into the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. If you are using the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine for the first time, the default username and password will be root.

Now, we will perform the overclocking test. This test is done at the default frequency of 600. We will raise the third gear to 618.75 in this test. The fans in the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine come with automatic adjustment. So, you don’t have to change the speed of the fan to remove the excess heat. The system will increase the fan speed when it detects a higher temperature. Now, we will check the temperature at different parts of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine. The temperature near the background chip is around 46 to 50 degrees Celsius. The temperature around the chassis is around 32 degrees Celsius.

Summary of Evaluation of Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine

  1. The heat dissipation system adopted by the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is somewhat like the modified heat dissipation system in the S1 mining machine from Bitmain. The S1 miner machine was released a long time ago. The ASIC chip makes use of an independent heat sink to dissipate the excess heat generated in this design. These heat sinks get connected to the fans on the front and backside. Thus, the heat is removed from the system in a fast manner. The speed of rotation of fans in the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine gets adjusted automatically. It will be in the range of 4000 rpm to 4300 rpm. The system makes use of the chip temperature readings to make the necessary fan speed adjustments. The design is made in such a way that the temperature on the chip is always kept at 49 degrees or below. If there is an increase in temperature, the fans will start pushing the heat outside with the help of the heat sinks.

  3. When it comes to the noise factor, the noise produced by the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is quite loud. During the measurement, the temperature during the day is around 23 degrees Celsius. The speed of rotation of the fan blades has crossed 4000 plus rpm with the automatic adjustments from the system. The noise level measured is around 73 to 83 dBa.If you are planning to use the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine for mining, we recommend choosing a remote site with fewer people around or in industrial areas.
  4. The power performance of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine is really good. The total power consumption has touched the 1128 W mark. In addition, the computing power has also crossed the 4 T plus mark. So, the overall performance of the miner is really impressive.
  5. You can see the option to fix a fan speed in the tools. But we do not recommend to tick this option. It is always good to go for the automatic adjustment where the miner will vary the fan speed according to the heat generated by the system. During the working of the Ant S7 Bitcoin miner machine, you can observe that the exhaust hot air coming out of the system is quite fast. So, it is a good idea to strengthen this exhaust air from the rear side of the system.
