Antminer Troubleshooting Guide – Common Issues Due to External Factors

There are a few common issues related to the Antminer mining system. In this Antminer troubleshooting guide, we will see how to fix these issues. We will have a look at the various problems and their fixes.

Issue 1

  1. One of the issues you may face will be the low hash rate.
  2. Another issue that can occur is the hash board is going offline.
  3. Failure to establish a connection is another common issue.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

If the grounding scheme of the mining system is not proper, it will result in this problem.

Furthermore, if there is any electric leakage, then also this problem can happen.

Possible Solutions

You can request your electrician to recheck the grounding scheme of the mining system. You can also ask him to check for electric leakage. He can easily fix these two issues.

Issue 2

  1. Sometimes, the Antminer may restart automatically.
  2. You may also see some instability in hash rates at times.
  3. The above-listed issues can happen randomly.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

This problem is mostly due to network issues.

Possible Solutions

You can get the help of a network engineer in such issues. He can check and resolve this problem quickly.

Issue 3

  1. Miner keeps on restarting.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. Dip in Voltage – If there is a dip in voltage going into the miner, this issue can occur. You need to request your electrician to check for the voltage readings and fix if there is any dip in voltages.
  2. Electrical leakage – If there are any electric leakages, you need to call your electrician and ask him to do a proper grounding scheme to fix the leakage.
  3. Damage to hash boards – Sometimes, the hash boards of the miner will be in a damaged state. You need to send the board back to the miner manufacturer for a repair if it is still under warranty.
  4. Damage to control board – In certain cases, the control board of the miner will be in a damaged state. You need to send the control board back to the miner manufacturer for a repair if it is still under warranty.

Issue 4

Another issue that can happen is the undesirable working environment.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

If there are dust particles in the environment, then it can affect the working of the miner. If the salinity value is too high, the boards can get corroded. High humidity and high-temperature values can also lower the life of the miner.

Possible Solutions

You need to ensure that the air quality of the mining environment is maintained properly. You need to have appropriate systems to control the temperature and humidity of the mining environment.

Issue 5

  1. Another common issue that can happen is the insufficient hash rate.
  2. Sometimes, the hash board may go offline.
  3. There can be no hash rates at times.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

All these issues can happen if the temperature in the mining room goes below 5 degrees Celsius.

Possible Solution

Consider increasing the temperature of the room and ensure that the ambient temperature never drops below 5 degrees Celsius.

Issue 6

Sometimes, there can be a power outage happening during the miner firmware upgrading process. When you try to switch on the miner, it will not work. The upgrade process did not get complete here.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

If there is any damage that happened to the control board of the miner during the power outage, this issue can occur.

Possible Solution

You can send the miner back to the manufacturer for a repair if it is still under warranty.

Issue 7

Sometimes, the miner will stay on the same page without moving to the next page automatically.

External reasons that can trigger this issue are given below:

It can happen if there is a crash happening during the firmware upgrading process. It can also occur if there are any issues with the browser.

Possible Solutions

We recommend using Google Chrome or Firefox instead of Internet Explorer to avoid this issue.

Issue 8

Sometimes, you may not be able to switch on the miner. All the lights in the miner remain off, and there is no fan rotation when power is provided to the miner.

Possible Solutions

  1. The first thing to do is replace the existing power supply with a new one. If the issue is not resolved, go ahead with the next step.
  2. Try giving power to the control board and see if it is working. If the issue is still there, go for the next step.
  3. Give power only to the control board and remove all the cables. If you are still seeing the issue, move to the next step.
  4. Now, it is sure that there is some kind of short circuit in the control board. So, you will have to ship the control board back to the miner manufacturer for a repair if the miner is still under warranty.

There are many status indication lights present in the Antminer. The troubleshooting guide given below is for issues related to these indicator lights,

In the normal working condition, the green indicator light will be flashing, and the red indicator light will be off. The ON state of the red indicator light shows some kind of fault in the miner.

Issue 9

In certain instances, you may find the red indicator light flashing.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. If the miner is experiencing an increase in temperature, the red lights will flash. You will have to bring down the miner temperature with the help of some external cooling solution in such cases.
  2. The red light will also flash if the miner is disconnected from the network. You need to check your network and try reconnecting it.

Issue 10

Sometimes, the green light will always be ON.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. Problem with the Network – It will be mostly due to some issues with your network. You need to check your network connection and fix this issue.
  2. IP Address issue – If there are any IP address issues, you can try resetting the miner. You can either go for a software reset or a hardware reset.

Issue 11

In some instances, both the green indicator light and the red indicator light will be in the OFF state.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. Broken miner fan – In the case of damaged fans, you need to replace them with a new one. You can get the replacement fans from the manufacturer if the product is still under warranty.

Issue 12

Sometimes, the red light will be flashing, and the green light will be in the OFF state.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. Conflict in IP – If there is an IP conflict, this issue can occur. So, you will have to reset the miner and set all the Antminers as DHCP.
  2. Duplication in IP – If one of the IPs is a static one and the other is a dynamic one, the IP duplication issue can occur. In such situations, you need to set all the IPs as static.

If the issue is related to the network portlight, you can use the troubleshooting tips given below.

Under normal working conditions, you will see a flashing green light along with the always ON yellow light in the network port indicator lights.

Issue 13

In certain cases, both the green light as well as the yellow light will be in the OFF state.

External reasons that can trigger this issue and the solutions are given below:

  1. Issue with network cable – If you have not plugged the network cable properly, this issue can occur. You can try reconnecting the network cable. You will also see this issue if the network cable is faulty. You can try using a new network cable.
  2. Damage to control board – In certain cases, the control board of the miner will be in a damaged state. Here, you need to send the control board back to the miner manufacturer for a repair if it is still under warranty.
  3. Not switching on the router – If you have not powered ON your router, you will see this fault. So, check and switch ON the router.
