Antminer L3+ Litecoin Mining Machine In-Depth Review

The first generation of Litecoin miner machine from Bitmain was released in 2014. These were the L1 miner machines. However, these mining machines did not come to the market due to some reasons. Later, Bitmain launched the L3 Litecoin mining machine in December 2016. The L3 Litecoin miner machine from Bitmain uses the BM1485 ASIC chip. Bitmain develops this chip for miner machines. The power consumption is around 400 W.

The Litecoin miner machine from Bitmain makes use of the Scrypt algorithm. So, this miner is sometimes referred to as a Scrypt algorithm mining machine. You can use this miner machine not only for mining Litecoins but also for mining any cryptocurrencies that can be mined using the Scrypt algorithm.

We have received an upgraded version of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. So, we will evaluate this newly upgraded machine and see if it meets the expectations or not. We will have a look at the official specifications of the Antminer L3+ miner machine first. 504 MH/S is the computing power of this miner machine. The power consumption of the Antminer L3+ miner machine is around 800 W. So, let us start the evaluation.

You can see different information for warehouse and logistics on the packaging box. There will be the logo of the brand and the barcode of the machine on the carton box. They make use of poly foam to protect the Antminer L3+ miner machine inside the carton box. Thus, the miner machine remains safe and protected during the shipping phase. The entire miner machine is covered with an anti-static cover to protect the miner from static voltages.

Looking at the miner machine’s front side, you can see various user interfaces. It includes the reset button, ethernet cable socket, and status indicator lights. The reset button in the miner can be used to restart or reset the Antminer L3+ miner machine. First, you need to connect the network cable to the ethernet cable socket. Then, the other end of the network cable needs to be connected to the router. The status indicator lights can show the operational status of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. The chassis of the Antminer L3+ miner machine is similar to the S9 miner. The aluminum alloy is integrally formed around the machine. There are grooves provided on the inside of the chassis. These grooves are used for inserting the hash boards into the miner machine. Bitmain has provided separate heat sinks for each of the ASIC chips. Thus, the overall structure inside the machine is very tight.

Now, we will look at the installation and the debugging of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. You need to check the status of the heat sinks on the boards before starting the installation process. You need to fix it before proceeding with the installation process.

You need to connect the power cable to the hash board of the miner first. You can see a couple of standard PCI-E 6-pin parts in all the four hash boards of the miner machine.

You need to switch ON the power of the Antminer L3+ miner machine first. Once the miner machine receives the power, it will assign the IP address automatically. It will scan for the IP address of the newly accessed device and goes to the background. Now, you will have to find the IP address of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. There are multiple ways to find the IP address of the miner. You can use any of these methods. You can log in to the router and look for a device with the Litecoin name to see the IP address.

Now, we are done with the installation process of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. So, we will do different tests on the miner machine. First, we will start with the ambient measurements. The level of noise in the ambient is around 38 dB. The measured value of ambient temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius during the daytime. The nighttime ambient temperature is around 16 degrees Celsius.

Now, we will have a look at the default frequency of operation of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. It is 384. This reading is taken after the machine is made to run continuously for a long time. 508 M is the average computing power of the Antminer L3+ miner machine after the long-term test. The computing power curve of the miner machine is found to be stable. There are no major fluctuations in the power curve.

The power measured is around 802 W.

The Antminer L3+ miner machine supports overclocking. So, we will also perform the overclocking test. The default frequency of operation of the Antminer L3+ miner machine is 384. We will overclock this value to 406. It is the 8th gear of overclocking. 530 is the average computing power of the Antminer L3+ miner machine after the long-term test.

Now, we will do the noise measurement on the Antminer L3+ miner machine. We will take the measurement when the miner machine is running in normal condition. The speed of rotation of the fan is around 3000 rpm during the daytime. The level of noise measured is around 70 dB. This measurement is taken 20 cm from the miner machine.

The Antminer L3+ miner machine will automatically adjust the speed of rotation of the fans according to the room temperature. So, you don’t have to set the fan speed manually. However, the speed of rotation of the fan drops to 2600 rpm at night. It is due to the reason that the ambient temperature is low during the nighttime. The level of noise is around 66 dB during this time. This measurement is taken 20 cm from the miner.

The level of noise is 60 dB from the Antminer L3+ miner machine when the measurement is taken 1 m away from the miner.

The fans in the miner will rotate at full speed during the initial starting phase of the miner and also when you change any of the miner settings in the background. After that, the fan will run at full speed for only 2 to 3 seconds. After that, it will come to its default speed as per the ambient temperature values. The level of noise when the fan rotates at full speed is around 79 dB

Now, we will do the temperature measurements on various parts of the Antminer L3+ miner machine. All these temperature measurements are taken when the miner machine runs in normal conditions. The measured temperature value on the ASIC chip is around 51 to 58 degrees Celsius.
