Beginners Guide to Troubleshoot Antminer Hashing Board

In this troubleshooting guide, we will see how to troubleshoot various problems that are related to the hash board of the Antminer. You can use these tips to fix any issues related to the hash board. When you are handling the hash board, ensure to take all ESD precautions. Otherwise, ESD can cause damage to sensitive ICs on the board. So, let us get started.

Not Able to Detect One Hash board Issue

hashboard1

One of the issues you can face during the Antminer operation is the non-detection of one of the hash boards. We will list out the probable causes and ways by which you can troubleshoot this issue.

  1. Signal cable issue – Sometimes, the signal cables can be the issue. In such a case, switch off the Antminer. Next, try pulling out all the signal cables from the Antminer. Then, reinsert all these signal cables. You can also consider changing these cables to new ones. If there are faulty cables connected, it can cause issues.
  2. Damage in Hash board – If you find any kinds of damage in the hash board, you can go for a repair in the warranty period.
  3. Damage to the Control Board – If you find any kinds of damage to the control board, you can go for a repair in the warranty period.

Non-Detection of All the 3 Hashing Boards

hashboard2

Sometimes, all the 3 hash boards present inside the Antminer will go undetected. The possible issue and its solution are given below.

  1. Software issue – Sometimes, it can be a software issue. In such non-detection cases, you will have to try to reset the Antminer first. You can reset the Antminer either through the software or through the hardware. But, first, check if you are able to fix the issue by doing the reset.

If you are not able to fix it through resetting, you need to look at the next step. You can go for a firmware upgrade by reburning the image file.

  1. Damage in hash boards – If you find any kinds of damage in the hash board, you can go for a repair in the warranty period.

Problem with the ASIC chip

You will have less number of ASIC chips in the hash board.

If chips are showing xxx, it is an issue.

hashboard3

If you are not getting all zeros in the ASIC status, it indicates a problem with the ASIC chip.

Sometimes, the number of zeros will be less.

hashboard4

Sometimes, there will be an x in between the zeros. Both these conditions indicate a fault in ASIC chips.

hashboard5

The possible issue and the troubleshooting steps are listed below.

  1. Software problem – If the issue is with the software, it is best to reset the mining system. You can go for a hardware reset or a software reset.

If you are not able to solve the issue by resetting the miner, you need to move on to the next step. First, you need to try upgrading the firmware of the miner. Then, you can download the appropriate firmware and reburn it in the miner.

  1. Issue with power supply – Sometimes. The power that you are feeding to the miner can be an issue. You can try using another power supply and see if that solves the problem.
  2. Issue with the control board ports – If you see any issue with the ports of the control board. Consider changing it.
  3. Damage in hash boards – If you find any kinds of damage in the hash board, you can go for a repair in the warranty period.

The issue with the Hash Speed

hashboard6

Your revenue from mining is fully dependent on the hash speed. So, you need to ensure to get consistent good hash speeds.

If you are seeing any drop in the hash speed for a very long time, then it is an issue.

hashboard7

There will not be any hash speed for some of the hash boards in some instances. Sometimes, you may see 0 as the hash board.

hashboard8

In some cases, certain hash boards in the miner will be having lower hash speeds.

hashboard9

hashboard10

The possible issue in the hashboard and the fix are given below.

  1. Issue with the software – Software issues with the miner can be easily fixed by resetting the miner. You can use the hardware switch in the miner for resetting or use the software reset. Resting the miner usually solves most of the problems related to the hash speed.

You can also go for a firmware upgrade. You can do it by downloading appropriate image files for the miner and burning them using the right software into the miner.

  1. Issue with power supply – The Antminer requires a steady supply of power for its proper functioning. Any variation in power can affect the hash boards. So, try using another power supply with the same specifications and see if it solves the problem.
  2. Issue with control board port – If the issue is with the ports of the control board, you need to replace them.
  3. Damaged Hash boards – If the hash board on the Antminer is damaged, you can send it to the Antminer manufacturer for a repair if it is in the warranty period.

Wrong Numbers Displayed on the Frequency Section of the 3 Hash Boards

hashboard11

Sometimes, wrong values can be seen under the frequency column of the hash boards. Usually, it will show 0 in such cases.

The cause for this issue and the troubleshooting method are given below.

You need to go for a firmware upgrade in this situation. Download the latest firmware for the Antminer from the manufacturer’s website. Reburn this image file into the miner for updating its firmware.

Miner is not showing in the mining pool, but hash speed is normal

hashboard12

This issue is mainly related to the mining pool. You can switch to another mining pool and see if it gets fixed.

Unable to establish a connection with a mining pool and the Zero hash speed

This issue can occur at times. The possible root cause and the solution to fix this problem are below.

  1. The issue with the miner software

You can try resetting the Antminer. You can use the software reset option at first. If you are not able to do a software reset, go for a hardware reset.

If resetting does not solve your problem, you need to upgrade the firmware of the Antminer. You can go to the miner’s manufacturer website and download the .img and .imgc files. Reburn these image files into the miner and restart the miner.

  1. Damage to the hash board – If the hash board on the Antminer is damaged, you can send it to the miner’s manufacturer for a repair if it is in the warranty period.

Negative numbers are displayed in the Temperature section

hashboard13

Sometimes, you may see negative numbers or “-” displayed in the temperature section in the miner software. The possible cause of this temperature value and its fix is listed below.

  1. Damaged Fans – if you see any damage in the fans, go for a repair from the manufacturer if it is under warranty.
  2. Control board port issue – If the ports of the control board are not working, you need to change them.
  3. Damage to hash boards – You can send the damaged hash boards to the manufacturer of the miner for repair if it is within the warranty period.

The log shows temperature values that are above the regular range

hashboard14

Sometimes, when you check the log file, you might see high-temperature warnings. It can be due to many reasons. All the possible causes and solutions to fix it are given below.

  1. Fan installation went wrong – You might have installed the fans in the wrong direction. So, remove it and install it in the correct orientation.
  2. Damage in the fans – If you see any damage in the fans of the miner, you need to send it back for repair, provided it is under warranty.
  3. Hot ambient temperature – The high-temperature warning in the log can be due to high room temperature. So, you need to bring down your room temperature to lower the miner temperature.
  4. Dropped Heatsinks – If the heat sinks are in the fallen state in the miner, you need to send the Antminer back to the manufacturer and get it repaired.
